There are two main types of endoscopy (examinations by means of a speculum): gastroscopy (examination of the stomach) and colonoscopy (examination of the intestines).
Medicum offers you:
- Endoscopic preventive care
- Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) and jejunostomy (PEJ – placement of feeding tubes into stomach and small intestine)
- Endoscopy with anaesthesia or sedoanalgesia
The use of a sedating and analgesic injection before any endo-scopic examination is a matter of course.
Safety and comfort of our patients have high priority at meDi-cum.
For this reason, we offer you the chance to “sleep through” a colonoscopy or gastroscopy with utmost relaxation. This is a “light anaesthesia”. You fall asleep relaxed and wake up re-laxed.
This sedoanalgesia is carried out by a separate specialist. This anaesthesiologist and intensive care specialist is responsible for your comfort and your safety during the entire examination (20-40 min), and the examining physician can concentrate en-tirely on the examination as such.
During a sedoanalgesia, you completely lose consciousness, just as with an anaesthesia. We guarantee that you will not notice anything. Yet, other than with an anaesthesia, you breathe spon-taneously and need no artificial respiration.
After the examination, you will feel fit again and be able to go home within half an hour.
